tomato/tomawto

Here’s a very, very short story that may change how you look at EVERYTHING and EVERYONE, forever.

A young gal goes home to visit her mom.  They are both accomplished stitchers, excellent work always.  As the visit unfolds, the talk happily turns to stitching.  Then her mom says, “would you please go get my thread box”?

“Sure!” says the daughter.

Although, the daughter had seen this box a million times over in her life time, this was the first time she looked at it and noticed how different it was from hers.

She took one picture.

When she sees the picture now, she is reminded that while we all may do the same hobby or cook the same meal or make the bed each morning………..we all come at it from different points of view.

We all have different things we place value on.

Not right or wrong, just different.

While it makes me happy to be from the more neat & tidy camp, others are just as creative and productive and yes, happy,  in the “hot mess of thread” camp.

I am just saying, maybe instead of pointing out how different we each are, maybe, just maybe, focusing on the things we do the same, might help each of us in dealing with our relationships with very stern mothers, forgetful friends or people who seem to have to do it their way or the highway.

We are more alike with others than we can imagine.

In this case, a picture is indeed worth a thousands words.

good gravy girl, review

Would you like to know one thing that really ruffles my feathers?

I offer a review of a product and an acquaintance/friend/neighbor says, “oh, I knew that, I have been using it for a year now”.

REALLY???

Why on earth aren’t you sharing the good stuff you find?

Good Gravy.   ( you know what I mean, that really good, creamy gravy with bits of mushroom swirled in and flecks of fresh ground pepper that add just the right amount of spice?)  Good Gravy, makes stuff better.  There I said it.  I really like sloppy, messy, flavor packed, dreamy gravy.

In the spirit of sharing and covering others with goodness and gravy, I am going to try to share at least once a month,  a good gravy find.  I like reviewing products and sharing good stuff I find.  The answer is no.   I do not get paid by any company to review their products.  If ever I am paid to review a product, I promise to tell you the truth.

I don’t want to hoard all these really wonderful ideas and feel all puffed up.

I want to share with you and slather on the goodness.  sharing

Also, in hopes that you will write a comment and share something that you tried and worked or boo hiss……. spent money on and it was a fail, with me.  Maybe we can laugh together?

Speaking of which I have a Miracle Mop you can have.  Spent way too much moolah on something that is way too heavy for me to use weekly.  It looks nice, the creator’s story seems so wonderful.  Sadly, I have  used it 3 or 4 times and it just doesn’t do it for me.

Here is my good gravy review for today:

Two words:

Eye Brows

I know some of you don’t have this problem. Or some of you will tell me, heavens no, I don’t wear make up.  Even if that is the case, would you please do me a favor and share with your friend who is seriously ill and needs a pick me up?????

When folks say they support their friend with this illness or that, yes, send a card and for heaven sake, pray for them and their health…….. and also share this idea.

If you or your sister, friend, co-worker, neighbor has ever had issues with thin or no eye brows, listen up!!!  Please for the sake of being a good gravy girl….SHARE this idea with them.  They will hug you and quite possibly buy you a cup of coffee or even bake you some sort of amazing goodie as a thank you.  SERIOUSLY, they will want to marry you because you will have stopped them from being so sad and frustrated about their eye brows.

Having thin eye brows because:

you over plucked them in junior high

you have dealt with any form of thyroid issue/disease

you have become very ill and lost your eye brows

while in heaven, you were chatting with your neighbor when they were passing out thick eyebrows and you missed out

Have I got a solution that works for you!

First, my answer is yes to all of the above.  I have tried several different colored pencils, waxy pencils, templates, eye brow marker (I would give a B+), organic, toxic laden, new and improved and on the list goes.

Here is what fell into my lap.  This amazing, wonderful product that actually….. wait for it…. works!!!!20170111_105809_resized

It stays on, even if you go swimming, or sweat while doing yard work, or brush your hand across to move your curly hair while you are biking!  (I take off my make up each night with coconut oil and it slips off easily and lightning fast.)

IT Cosmetics, Build a Brow, 24 hour waterproof 5 in 1.  I purchased mine from QVC.  It is around $30.00 and comes in five shades.  I am thrilled with the results.

I am no longer embarrassed by the look of my eye brows or lack there of.  Heck, I don’t even think about them anymore.  Just a couple of moments in morning and I am a supremely happy girl every time I notice them throughout the day.

So to recap:  I no longer feel embarrassed and I am giddy that I found this product.  Please for the sake of being a good gravy girl, SHARE this product suggestion with a friend.  I promise you, you will make her day, week, month, life so much happier!

In this together, friends.

just a little sparkle

Under the name of a before and after blogger, are the words, “because we can’t leave well enough alone.”

Does this of remind you of someone?

Our master bedroom closet.  While it was a perfectly good closet, I had to go and change it.

I liked the closet, I didn’t love the closet.  You just know, the moment I saw that plain Jane, dull, sad closet, I was rubbing my hands together and my mind got to swirling.  She needed somethin’, somethin’.

If you want to catch up with the original blog post, this will whet your appetite.

Okay, so here is the follow-up.  The finale.  The finished project.  The glorious before and after.

Since this project began some 8 months ago, I have been searching for a flush mount chandelier.  I had lots of wants.  It had to offer a glorious amount of light.  It had to be girlie and pretty. It has to have crystals.  She had to have all that and be very reasonably priced.    The search took several months & while on line, several cups of coffee.  Similar to real life, when you least expect it, you find it.

Not only does the new light sparkle, she throws beautiful patterns and shadows all around. My silver trays filled with pretty baubles and such all twinkle.  The frames filled with pretty photographs shine. Plenty of light and sparkle to see the beautiful colors of coordinated clothing, shoes, belts, and jewelry.

Of course a huge thank you to Mr. Right for installation.  Sure, while up on the ladder, he had a few words.  I just kept holding the flash light (most of the time, steady) and smiling.

Here she is:

…and just like that (8 months later), another “to do” item checked off the list.

Today, Mr. Right & I prayed for our nation.

We begin a new season in our administration. The day was full of pomp & circumstances. Once again, we were witness to a peaceful transition of power.  Unlike so many other countries, this is part of who we are.

Every single day of my life, I am mighty grateful to live and thrive in such a tremendous country.

May God bathe our country, leaders and citizens with Grace and Peace.

God Bless America.

less clutter more happy

January is that time of year when cleaning up seems to be most popular.  Clean this, organize that, come on folks…. jump on the clean band wagon!  clean-me

While I don’t have oodles to clean/organize in our home (junk drawers are named that for a reason, if I organized that it wouldn’t be a junk drawer)  there are a few areas that could use some extra love.

Believe it or not, moving into a home 10 months ago, the kitchen hasn’t really gotten all tangled up.  Now, the pantry is a whole other animal.  We are still trying to figure out that area.  Jeepers.  Wow, what a conglomeration of items.  A few matching baskets or bins is not going to help.  It needs major before and after action.  Pretty much a huge, two person undertaking.  Yikes, not really up for that right now.  Fingers crossed an expedition to the big city for the Home Show, next month will conjure up some glorious solutions.

clean-up-2Lotions, potions and cosmetics.  I took one grocery shopping bag and filled her up.  Yep, if I couldn’t remember when I purchased it, out it went.  Clean sweep.  Very freeing.  (I recently started using  a magic marker and put the date on the bottom of products, so I know when it is time to toss.)

Did you know, in the military,  KP stands for Kitchen Patrol?  I sort of wish it stood for Komputer Patrol. Okay, so computers don’t start with the letter K.

CP.  Computer Patrol.   This month I am  focused on computer clean up.

I went through and deleted/hid oodles of sites and folks that just don’t make me happy any longer on Facebook.

Next, I subscribed to   https://unroll.me   This site is so easy and has been so helpful.

So far this brand new year……..by using this really super, duper simple site…….I have unsubscribed to 120 sites coming into my inbox.  I have rolled up 48 sites that come to me a couple of times a week, which I can look at and open if I wish and have kept 61 sites coming into my inbox.

I have unsubscribed to several blogs that no longer lift up my spirits or health goals.

I cleaned the actual computer.  I frequently use the lap top.  So while I am guessing most of clean-whistleyou never, ever have snacks or drink juice or coffee near or around your computer, that is not the case with me.  I took one of those cans of air and really cleaned between the keys.  I use the correct cleaning cloth to clean the screen.  Golly gee, I even cleaned the mouse and the stand that the computer rests upon.

Yep, she is clean as a whistle.  I just smiled while I typed that.

I went further and deleted several pictures that are no longer relevant.  Don’t fret, I still have every single grand picture and picture of my dog….those are a glorious clutter of happiness!

I am sharing this because, well my shoulders feel lighter.  It seems cleaner and more simple.   The computer doesn’t seem so muddled.

In this together, friends.

Please share any and all ideas for a clean sweep as we embark on a brand new year of goodness.  I would love to hear your ideas.

true north, part 2

20170115_184824_resizedThank you so much for all the nice comments and words about our new vinyl ceiling decoration.  In the feel good department, your words  are kind & top-notch.  In other good news, it didn’t fall down and this is day two!

The new year brings about the need to regroup, choose a different less traveled path, fine tune our direction.

It’s that time of year, when I search for a new word that will lead me through a new year.  I am stumbling, feel off-balance and haven’t quiet figured it out yet.  Oh, I have some runners-up.  I just haven’t quiet put my finger on it yet. I’ve looked up so many words.

I am tired.  As of late, I am tired of fussing and worrying and fretting.  You know, the middle of the night when all those ridiculous and not so calm thoughts invade a person’s sweet dreams?   Sometimes, I get up, walk around, reorganize the place mat and cloth napkin drawer.  Anything to regroup, get my mind to go a different direction.

I chose the word faith for a few days.  I want to have more faith in myself.  More faith in my study and research and choices. Much more faith in the direction of health and wellness that I have chosen.  I need to like myself more. Somewhere deep inside, I want to be more patient with myself, have more faith in me.

When you listen to Twyla Paris sing, “True North” you get a sense of direction.  She sings about a strong steady light that is guiding us home.   I want to continue to create that pull. That almost unbreakable magnetic force that leads our children’s spirit towards us.  Yes, I want them to venture out and explore and go on amazing adventures.  However, I want them to feel the need to call home and tell us all about it.

Is she talking about our faith in believing in the ultimate “home”?  I feel the need to make my direction more clear-cut, more focused.  Work towards that goal.  Somehow restate my/our purpose , our direction.  I want to work on the more focused direction I need to be going. I want to try to let go of my need to help “save” others.  I recently read, “yours is the only life you can save.”

Is my word, family, home, up, compassion, focus, world peace, empathy?

Paris closes her song with, “We need an absolute compass now more than ever before, True North”.   The world in which we live, seems to be a hot mess.  Somewhere we have peaceforgotten to take care of each other.  Our compass is spinning.  We need to focus on the care of our families and each other, the rest, will fall into place. I want to focus more on my family and close friends. Friends who are willing to let us be apart of their lives.

This  blog post seems to be all different thoughts and ideas scattered all over the page.   I can’t seem to focus on one topic, or direction.

20170103_145107_resizedBefore this past weekend: as you look up, the ceiling as you come into or go out of our home. Plain, dull, empty

Now look up, there guiding us, is the direction 20170115_184824_resizedMr. Right and I want to go.  We want to end up on the same page, in the same place. Oh, we know exactly where we want to end up.  It will just be a lovely reminder that we are on the same page.

Sort of a gentle nudge that even with life swirling around us, we are on course.

Oh, I didn’t realize that “my” word would find me.

Direction, that’s my word for 2017.

What word have you chosen to follow?

In this together, friends.  Would love to hear where the new year is going to take you.

Steady as she goes Captain.

true north

In all my excitement I penned a much too long a post.  I think I will save for another day. This week sometime, for all you curious souls who want to know the “why” behind the project, I promise to share.

Instead of telling you why I chose this decorating gem, I think I will just show you sets of beautiful before and after pictures. .  Yes, good news, I remembered to take before pictures!!

Things you will need:

Vinyl decal   I bought this one from:  modernwallgraphics.com

Your own Mr. Right to: grumble, fuss, question your decorating sense, climb the really tall ladder, get a stiff neck, worry, talk poorly about the company that made said decal and then leave you a note in the morning saying how great it looks and so glad “we” did it.

A really tall ladder.  Thanks R & S for allowing us to borrow the right tool for the job.  I was briefly toying with the idea of putting our ladder on a table.  There was only one thing that could go right with that idea and about 504 things that could go wrong.  So heads up kids…….. Use a safe ladder for the size ceilings that you have.  Having folks allow you to borrow their handy, dandy, safe ladder makes this project slick as a whistle and safe.  Don’t forget safe.

On with the show!

Time for the before pictures:  Just look at that sad, dull, plain, clean slate of a ceiling.

Oh, and now the not so glorious during photos:

and now, drum roll please……….The beautiful glorious after photos!!!!

PS.  More good news, similar to after painting, when I scurry out of bed the next morning to see if the paint stayed on the walls over night, I did the same with the vinyl decal.  Thanks to my fretting, worrying, fussing, wondering, fingers crossed………yep, it is still up there!

Swoon.  I sort of love it more today than yesterday.
