before and after, haPPY

stick em up!

The before and after is a glorious moment in time.

Sure, sure it takes months of talking, planning, saving.  It takes a week or more for the actual work.  Then the drama of trying to remember to take the pictures.  haha

Laundry room cabinets have been cleaned, sanded, primed and painted.  New handles have been put on.  The extra nice cabinet stoppers have been put on.  The hinges have been cooked overnight in the slow cooker with water and a Tablespoon of Dawn dish soap, scrubbed, cleaned,  primed and painted.

Then one of the nicest little details……………. inside the cabinet doors I put up Post-It note display boards.  They are sticky like a post-it note.  (Staples on line or amazon.com) That way, I can stick up post cards,  pictures, jokes, fortunes, notes and grand kiddo art!  While keeping the outside looking pretty, the inside is full of life and goodness!  Years ago, I use to tape up all the kids’ art inside the cupboard doors.  When you looked at the kitchen, it looked neat and tidy, when you opened a cupboard it was full of art and color and goodness!

Here are the pictures.  Goodbye strange, orange hue oak cabinet color.  Hello beautiful, clean, bright,  (Sherwin Williams) Alabaster White cabinets.    Every single time I walk by the laundry room, I smile.  A girl can’t ask for much more than that.

grab/crab life

WIP (work in progress) Wednesday.

I started this counted cross stitch piece four days ago.  Working on the piece for about 1 and half hours each day, I decided to take a picture to show my progress.

This is a very happy, small stitch for me.   Here is the low down:  It is a Hands on Design, created by Cathy Habermann. ( This is the second piece I have stitched by this artist.)  I am stitching it on 32 count Lugana fabric, two over two threads and using the called for Gentle Arts thread.20170625_080909_resized

This is for my laundry room.  I know right?  HAPPY!

I have a beautiful poster that is framed.  From the moment I saw it, at our local fish market, Northern Fish…….I loved it so much, I wrote to the company to find out about their marketing poster!  How’s that for falling love??

I even matched wall color paint (to that poster)  that I will be painting that room, next.

Makes me almost giddy. Well, except for the fact that no matter how much “happy” I put into that room, I still have to fold laundry.  20170627_090936_resized

We framed a picture that our Grand Z painted when she was 2.  I ADORE this picture. 20170627_090950_resized

I finished painting the cabinets in the laundry room a couple of days ago.  I promise to share those on my next blog post.

Here’s to a Crabby, Happy Wednesday!

ridiculously amazing list

Early this morning a friend invited me to join her on a challenge.  In a Sunday class, the assignment was to write down 20 things GOOD about yourself.  She asked me if I wanted to take up the challenge.

It took me several minutes to agree.  Honestly, it was still early and I couldn’t figure out a polite way to say no.

So, we did a virtual “Pinky swear” (no spit) and got out pen & paper.  pinky swear

I started with a bang and then fizzled out around number 8.

Seriously?

I quite quickly started to see part of the “issue” of me feeling a bit down lately.

There is something very unhealthy about not thinking of yourself as a good egg.

While my mother raised my sisters and me not to be boastful…….there is something to be said for appreciating the gifts that I have.  I sure knew that I needed a boost, so back to the drawing board.  Number 9…….  Really?  This can’t be that hard.

Immediately  I figured out that because this was a difficult challenge, maybe it was something I needed to do.

Here we go, buckle down. Number 9…….  Really?  This can’t be that hard.

I am a nice person.

Oh, there’s one right there.

I took a break and asked Google.  Who knew there was help?  I found one website mighty helpful.

http://www.purposefairy.com/66208/how-to-begin-rebuilding-your-life-and-make-it-ridiculously-amazing/

That search lead me down a fluffy rabbit hole.  100 Good things about Me!  Oh, good gravy, there is NO way I can come up with 100 things good about me!

Wait, maybe I can fill out the list?

There is something rather delicious about nurturing the GOOD in oneself.  Now, I don’t mean to announce your or my list on social media.  I think of this blog as my journal.  So if you read some of my list, keep your lips sealed.  I will never know you peaked.

With each thing I wrote, it sort of became easier.

The 20 things GOOD about me has morphed into a list of 100 things.  No, I have not made it to 100 yet.  However, I am going to keep trying.

If I don’t think there are 100 good things about me…..I am no social genius….I am guessing that others won’t see the good in me either.

So far, I have made it to 47. I am going to keep at it. It may take me a day or two or more. I sort of feel like I need to do this.  I am not sure how easy the rest of the list will come, I just have a feeling it will be good for my spirit and the people around me.

Let’s face it, being around “Debbie downers” is not a picnic.

WE need to do this.  It sort of feels lovely to read all the GOOD there is about yourself.  Sort of makes one blush just a bit.

In this together friends.

Are you brave enough to take up the challenge?  Will you pinky swear that you will give it a try? Please stop by and leave a morsel of goodness.  I would love to hear a couple of things on YOUR list.

tis the season

20170610_134346-1_resizedOf course, you know what season I am talking about!

Fresh Strawberries and just picked Rhubarb season!!!

This past weekend Mr. Right brought home our first flat of fresh berries to indulge in.  Oh man, this is good stuff! 20170610_084932-1_resized

Oh, la la.  Love berries & rhubarb. (and Mr. Right, I think they call that a trifecta?)

The rhubarb tartness and strawberry sweet somehow mingle together on your tongue to create this amazing flavor combination of perfection.

The first thing I made was a Galette and then I made a sauce.

Enough chit-chat… let’s move to pictures…..

Whatcha been cooking in your neck of the woods?

beauty, haPPY, vacation tip

bag lady

You know those souvenir paper shopping bags we all collect?  The ones you get when you buy something from a specialty shop while on vacation?

I can’t seem to part with them.  They hang on a hook in the back of my closet. They hang off a push-pin on my note board in the sewing room.  The moment I see the bag with the logo, I just adore the holiday memories that come flooding back.

20170603_184307_resizedI took one and used it.  That’s right, I cut it up, put double-sided sticky tape on the back and lined a new drawer.

Over the weekend, I finally found & bought a new hall table that I liked.  The drawers needed lining before I filled them with treasures.

I cut up a souvenir bag for one of the drawers.20170605_094357-1_resized

I get a little shiver the moment I tug open a drawer and under some pens, candles or note cards, I spy a little piece of vacation.   Having it there helps me remember all the wonderful trips and places we have explored.

Now, go find one of your souvenir bags tucked away! Get out some scissors & tape.  This “craft” will be over faster that you can imagine.

Think how happy you will be each time you see it.  🙂

How does your garden grow?

20170602_074942-1_resized_1Mary, Mary………………My name is Daleen and I try not to be contrary (pigheaded, obstinate, defiant, unhelpful, difficult)

When a girlfriend comes to visit…………..don’t you just love to get out two mugs, pour cups of dark coffee, slosh in oodles of thick coconut cream and take them out back to wonder around the garden?  You hold the mug with two hands.  One to keep the chill at bay and two you have no hand to hold your phone.  It’s just you and your friend, meandering.

Come on, here, you might need this sweater.  It’s a bit cool out this morning and the rain is trying hard to do more than drizzle.

Raspberries, Grapes and Rosemary

Jasmine and Mint

Blueberries and   Yukon Gold Potatoes

Swiss Chard, Radishes, Pole Beans and Tomatoes

Fig tree, Cilantro and Chives

Let’s sit here under the Wisteria Covered Pergola and drink the rest of our coffee?

I would love to see what grows in your garden.
